EL1 UP Membership

The EL1 Umpire Performance Membership is a year-round training program that uses modern technology to create data-driven training sessions, helping umpires monitor both short-term and long-term trends. Umpires will have the opportunity to practice and refine individual skills such as force play positioning, wedge play positioning, eye usage, and more. These guided sessions will allow umpires to track their accuracy rates and take notes for future improvement. Strike zone training will feature TrackMan sessions, providing immediate feedback and helping umpires analyze long-term trends while mastering how to call the appropriate zone for their skill level.

Memberships include the following:

In Person Mini Camps Sessions - Professionally guided sessions designed to work in small groups, share ideas and experiment with different tips and techniques.

  • Trackman Profile - All trackman sessions are videotaped and saved in TrackMan portal for future reference.

  • Online Classroom - Series of Lessons based around the 2-umpire system and Umpire Fundamentals

  • Video Room - A series of videos that focus on more advanced mechanics and skills used in the 2, 3 and 4 umpire systems.

Included Mini Camps

  • Strike Zone 1

In Strike Zone 1, we take a look at the fundamentals of the plate stance and technical skill of calling pitches. We examine how tracking and timing can affect results and how to effectively use them to call an accurate strike zone.

  • Strike Zone 2

In Strike Zone 2, we take a deeper dive into how to make adjustments. Catchers are not always stationary or in an ideal location. Here we teach skills to call pitches accurately while fighting against minor distractions.

  • Wedge Theory 1

In Wedge Theory 1, we break down the basic understanding of wedge plays and how we use it in every system and every base.

  • Wedge Theory 2

Wedge Theory 2, takes a deeper dive into Wedge Theory and how to efficiently use it in the 3 and 4 umpire system. We will examine different positioning philosophies at each base and in each system.

  • Force Plays 1

Force Plays 1, takes a look at how we take different types of force plays. Starting at first base, we examine angle and distance and how each can affect our judgement. We also look at the best ways to take force play outs at other bases.

  • Force Plays 2

Force Plays 2, looks into the details of calling force outs and more complex plays. Plays with multiple outcomes will be introduced.

  • Rule Interpretation 1 & 2

In Rule Interpretations, we examine a series of foundational rules that also include key pieces of judgement. Some examples include Catch/No Catch, Interference, Obstruction, Balks, Base Awards and more!

  • Judgement 1 & 2

In Judgement, we study where our judgement currently stands by putting everything into practice. Using slow motion replay we gather game simulation information for force outs, check swings, plays at the plate, steal plays and more!
